Eligibility for the NAB Summer Intern Program

You'll need to meet the following requirements to be eligible for the summer intern program.

Citizenship and visa requirements

We only accept candidates with full Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency at the time of applying for the program. Temporary visa holders are not eligible for the program.

Tertiary education requirements

You’ll need to be in your penultimate year of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree and due to complete your degree by January 2026.

Application process

We’ve designed our application process with you in mind. Our approach is centred on providing you with every opportunity to be your most authentic self.

Accessible to all

We’re committed to giving all applicants the chance to pursue roles on a level playing field by removing barriers that people with a disability may face. If you think there are any reasonable adjustments we can make to the recruitment process (or the role), so you can participate fairly, please email us. You can also find out more about accessibility at NAB.

Application form and required documents

  • You’ll need to complete the application form, opens in new window. This is where you’ll get the chance to tell us about who you are, your skills and experience. You’ll also nominate your chosen business area.
  • Do your research. Understand the business area you’ve applied for and why you’re interested in a career at NAB. You can’t change your mind after submitting your application, so please choose carefully.
  • You’ll need to upload your most recent academic transcript. We don’t look at your GPA/WAM, your transcript is a useful reference to confirm degree discipline or major.

Selection process

Once we’ve had a look at your application, if you meet our eligibility criteria, we’ll invite you to complete the online assessment. We’ll keep in touch throughout the selection process to let you know how your application is tracking. Make sure you give us the email you most regularly use.

Online assessment

You can take the online assessment at home or anywhere you have online access.

The online assessment will consist of:

  • a personality assessment
  • verbal reasoning
  • numerical reasoning
  • logical reasoning.

When completing your online assessment make sure you’re free from distraction and have good internet connection. Read the questions carefully and if you’re unfamiliar with these types of assessments try some practice questions beforehand.

Video interview

If you’re successful in the online assessment, you’ll move onto the next stage – video interviews.

This stage gives us a deeper understanding of who you are and provides a great opportunity for you to share a little bit about yourself with us.

Once you log onto our secure site, you’ll be asked a few questions and you’ll need to record your responses. You can do this at any time, and anywhere you feel comfortable.

Prepare for your video interview by thinking about the various school, work, and life experiences you can draw on. Think about how you can make your experience relevant to the role you’re applying for.

Engagement Centre

The final stage of the recruitment process is our Engagement Centre. You’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills by participating in a range of interactive activities. You’ll also be able to meet past graduates and business leaders and find out more about the graduate program.

Our Engagement Centres are usually held in September. In 2024 the Engagement Centres will be held between 2 September 2024 and 13 September 2024.

You will attend the Engagement Centre for your nominated business areas.

Most Engagement Centres will run virtually with the exceptions listed below:

  • The Financial Markets Engagement Centre is held face-to-face at our Sydney office.
  • The Finance Engagement Centres will be held both virtually and face-to-face at our Melbourne office.
  • The Strategy and Innovation Engagement Centre will be held both virtually and face-to-face at our Melbourne office.

To prepare for this final stage of the selection process, why not try out some mock interviews with family or friends. Have them ask you questions and provide constructive feedback. Familiarise yourself with a behavioural-based interview process. Typically, during these types of interviews, you’ll be asked to provide examples of past employment or specific situations and discuss how you behaved in those circumstances.

Getting an offer

If you're successful, we'll call you a few days after your Engagement Centre with the news. It’s important to note that if you choose to relocate for the NAB Summer Intern program, this will be self-funded.
