Getting started Common payment questions
How can I accept credit card payments in-person?
To accept credit card payments in-person you need:
- a Point-Of-Sale (POS) system and a card reader; or
- a credit card terminal; or
- an app that can process transactions on its own.
NAB EFTPOS machines work with modern POS systems to let you process card transactions.
Our NAB Easy Tap app-based solution lets you take card payments on your Android device without needing additional hardware.
What are ‘in-person payments’ and how do they work?
An in-person payment is when a customer swipes, inserts or taps a credit or debit card on a physical device or Android device with NAB Easy Tap.
- An EFTPOS terminal is the most common way to accept card payments in-person.
- Our EFTPOS machines are ideal for countertop use and are easy to take on the road.
- NAB Easy Tap accepts contactless payments on the go.
When taking an in-person payment, your terminal or Android phone will receive an 'Approved' or 'Declined’ message for each transaction. If approved, you'll receive funds into your linked bank account.
What are the types of card payment methods?
The most common methods of card payment are through physically swiping, inserting or tapping (contactless) on an EFTPOS terminal.
On the NAB Easy Tap app, you can tap your credit or debit card on the Android phone. To accept these types of payments you’ll need a device that can handle contactless payments and EMV chip payments, which transmit unique codes for added protection against fraud. Digital wallet payments like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay are increasingly popular and can be processed through modern card readers that accept contactless payments. NAB Easy Tap and our EFTPOS machines are approved by Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
