What is My Goals and why is it changing?
My Goals is a feature in the NAB app that allows you to add a personal savings goal to any of your NAB iSaver or Reward saver accounts. This is to help you track your progress.
From May, My Goals will be replaced by a new savings feature called Spaces.
If you have updated to the latest version of the NAB app, you will see the new Spaces version of the feature. All My Goals functionality will be unavailable once you have upgraded the NAB app.
If you haven’t updated to the latest version of the NAB app, you will still see the old My Goals version of the feature. Eventually My Goals will be unavailable on all versions.
What does this mean for the goals I’ve already created?
If you have an existing goal that aligns with criteria for a Space in the new Spaces experience, it will be transitioned.
If you have one goal attached to a sole NAB iSaver or Reward Saver account, your goal will be available in the new Spaces experience.
If an existing goal meets any of the following criteria, the goal will be removed and you will need to recreate a new one in Spaces:
- a goal created on a joint account
- a goal created on a transaction account
- goals created on more than one account.
While the goal will be removed, the account will remain open with any existing funds still available. If your goals are closed, your account will retain the goal name, which you change by following these instructions:
-
Select the goal name from the account summary.
-
Tap the Details icon.
-
Scroll down the Options section and select Rename account.
What is Spaces?
Spaces is a new feature introduced on the NAB mobile app. It replaces the previous My Goals feature, providing enhanced features such as:
- Create up to 30 Spaces linked to one nominated savings account (Reward Saver or iSaver)
- Easily bucket funds in one savings account to save for different purposes
- Flexibility to edit and manage Spaces
- Add an optional target amount and date
- Close individual Spaces when you have achieved your savings target.
Setting up Spaces
You can create your first Space on the NAB app. Once you’ve set up your first Space, you can add more Spaces for all your goals. You can edit the Space name, theme (or category), target amount and target date at any time.
-
Under the navigation menu, select Saving Spaces (you can also find it via search or account details menu).
-
Choose a theme (optional).
-
Give your Space a name.
-
Add a target (optional).
-
Link your Space to a savings account
Which accounts can I set up Spaces for?
You can set up Spaces on only one of your eligible savings account (iSaver or Reward Saver). You cannot set up Spaces on your transaction accounts. Spaces is not available on joint accounts.
When you create your first Space, you need to nominate one of your savings accounts to be linked to all your Spaces. This includes Spaces you plan on creating in the future.
You can check the nominated account to your Spaces via the Linked account tab on the Your Spaces page. You can change the nominated savings account by closing all the current Spaces before creating new Spaces and selecting the different savings account you would like to nominate.
Transferring money in Spaces
The balance of your linked account can be allocated to your Spaces so you can divide your savings amongst your different goals and priorities.
There are several ways you can transfer money in Spaces:
- One-off transfer from your nominated savings account to a Space.
- One-off transfer from a Space to your nominated Savings account.
- One-off transfer from one Space to another Space.
Your linked account must have funds available in order to move these into your Spaces.
If there is a debit on the nominated savings account, the amount gets debited from the unallocated funds in the linked savings account first. The amount will then be debited from the individual Spaces (in the order of latest creation date) until the amount is fulfilled.
You can continue to transfer money to your Space after you have reached your target. Your Space will remain active until you close them individually.
You cannot transfer money to multiple Spaces at once, and recurring transfers are currently unavailable.
Closing Spaces
If you want to close a Space, it must have zero funds in it. You can achieve this by transferring the remaining funds from the Space to your nominated savings account. After this, you can follow these instructions to close the Space.
-
Select the Space you’d like to close.
-
Select Edit.
-
Select Close this Space.
Once a Space is closed, it will no longer be viewable or show on the Your Spaces page.
