Upcoming changes to cheques
On 18 November 2024, the Australian Government announced its decision, opens in new window to phase out cheques.
Cheque use across Australia has dropped by 83% over the last 10 years as more of us, including businesses, turn to digital banking as a fast, secure and convenient way to pay and get paid.
The changes will affect:
- Personal cheques
- Business cheques
- Bank cheques
What this means for you
If you currently write or deposit cheques, you can continue to use them over the next few years.
There will be no change to your BSB and account number or your linked card or how you use your account.
Some financial institutions may choose to phase out cheques earlier and this will mean you won’t be able to deposit cheques from those financial institutions into your NAB account.
