Get a payout figure

A payout figure is provided when processing your closure request and is valid for that day. Your payout figure is your outstanding balance plus pending transactions, any disputed transactions that aren’t resolved in your favour, interest, fees and charges. If you’re unable to pay in full on this day, you’ll need to contact us to get an updated figure. The terms and conditions for your NAB credit card will continue to apply until you've repaid all amounts owing and cancelled or modified your recurring payments.

If your account is in credit, we’ll request your account details to return the funds to you after interest, fees and pending transactions are applied to your account.

Change your recurring payments

If you have recurring payments, you’ll need to talk to the merchant to change them to a different card or stop them. Depending on how the merchant charges your account, these transactions may still be processed after your account is closed – and you’ll still need to pay any amounts charged to your account (including any associated fees and interest).

A recurring payment is an agreement you have made directly with a merchant, authorising a payment to be paid from your credit card account by giving them your card number, expiry date and CVV number. Examples of a recurring payment include gym memberships and subscription services (e.g. Netflix, News Corp, etc.).

Cancel any future card payments

Make sure to cancel any future card payments set up through BPAY®, internet banking and/or the NAB app.

Order a new debit card to access a linked account

If you use your credit card to access your transaction account and don’t have a NAB Visa Debit card, you’ll need to order one to continue to access your funds. You can apply online for a NAB Visa Debit card or visit your nearest branch.

Check your rewards points

If you have a Qantas, Velocity or Flybuys Rewards card, any Reward points not credited when you close the account will be forfeited (including points earned in the current statement period).

NAB Rewards Points already credited won’t be impacted when you close your account, but you’ll need to redeem these within 60 days of closure.

NAB recommends you consider the NAB Credit Card and Rewards Terms and Conditions before closing your account.

How to close your credit card online

  • If you have an outstanding balance, we’ll send you a statement each month where the account balance is $10 or more, or if any transactions have been processed since the last statement.
  • Interest will be charged on your balance until your final payment has been made, as per the terms and conditions of your account.
  • Any additional cards will also be cancelled and can no longer be used. Make sure you destroy your card and any additional cards immediately.
  • You’ll no longer be able to use the card set up in your digital wallet.
