What are NAB Travel Tools?

When you’re travelling overseas, NAB Travel Tools can help. They’re a suite of tools in the NAB app  to help you manage your spending but also keep your cards active and money safe.

Let’s explore some of the app features and tools that you can use before and during your travels:

  • Use the app to keep us updated with your travel dates, the countries you plan to visit and your contact details while overseas. That way we can help protect your cards and keep your money secure.
  • Allow overseas card use so, your cards stay active and you’re able to make purchases hassle-free.

Track your spending by checking fees and charges

Before you leave, check fees and charges on the NAB app, so you know how much it costs to make transactions when you're on holidays. This way you can make sure you have the best NAB product to suit your travel needs.

  1. Log into the NAB app.
  2. Navigate to Menu (or More on iOS).
  3. Select Travel.
  4. Tap on Fees and charges when travelling.

How to set up NAB Travel Tools

  1. Login into the NAB app. 
  2. Go to the Menu (or More on iOS).
  3. Tap Travel.
  4. Tap Travel Mode.

NAB Travel Tools will now appear on the home screen when the app detects that you're out of Australia. To use Travel Tools, just tap Travel on the home screen.

Locations services need to be enabled on your device for NAB Travel Tools to work.

The foreign exchange calculator requires the latest version of the NAB app, check if yours is up-to-date.

How to use the foreign exchange calculator

Ever been shopping overseas and seen something you really want to buy, only you don't know how much it'll cost? 

Our foreign exchange calculator gives you a better indication of how much something costs you in Australian Dollars on your NAB Visa card.

The foreign exchange calculator gives you the official Visa currency daily rates for 37 different currencies, including all the big ones:

  • US Dollars
  • Euros
  • Japanese Yen
  • Indonesian Rupiah
  • British Pounds
  • New Zealand Dollars

The exact conversion rate on your statement may differ to foreign exchange calculator's rate because of the time it can take the merchant to process your payment.

How to update rates

To update the exchange rates in NAB Travel Tools, you'll need to connect to the internet. We suggest you do this regularly for the latest daily rate.

But don't stress - the foreign exchange calculator still works even if you're offline. It'll use the most recently updated conversion rates stored on your device.

How Jim uses the foreign currency converter

Jim is travelling overseas and has booked a table at the hottest restaurant in Paris.  He can’t wait to sample the local fare, though isn’t sure he can afford it as the entire menu is listed in Euros.  By quickly using the foreign currency converter in the NAB app, he’s able to see how much each item costs in Australian dollars and stays within his budget.  Better still, he can still use this feature when not connected to WiFi.
