Group Chief Financial Officer

Nathan Goonan has served as Group Chief Financial Officer since July 2023.

Nathan has 20 years of experience in financial services spanning corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions and investment banking. Prior to the current role, he was Group Executive Strategy & Innovation at NAB, where he led the global execution of the bank’s corporate strategy and played a key leadership role in strategic decisions.

Before this, Nathan was Executive General Manager Group Strategy & Development. In this role, he led several strategic initiatives, including the divestment of NAB’s UK and US businesses, the Group Strategy Refresh in 2019-20 and the acquisition of Citigroup’s Australian consumer business. Nathan began his career in banking as a graduate in the mergers and acquisitions team at NAB. He went on to work in investment banking at Lazard and Goldman Sachs in London and Australia before re-joining NAB in 2013 as Executive General Manager for Corporate Affairs.

From this global experience, Nathan brings a sharp focus on accountability, performance and execution to his current role.

Nathan holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor Agricultural Science (Hons) from the University of Melbourne. He is a director on the boards of MLC Ltd, Pollinate Networks Ltd, Australian Business Growth Fund Pty Ltd, 86 400 Holdings Ltd and Bank of New Zealand, each of whom NAB holds investments in.
